What Is Joint Pain?

Joint pain is generally caused by an inflammation of the tissue around the joints or of the joints themselves. It is usually signified by a shooting pain or twinge in the knees, elbows or other joint areas. Joint pain is sometimes extremely painful, but it is frequently eased with treatment or medication.
Types of joint pain
Many forms of joint pain are caused by arthritis, especially joint pain in older people. Arthritis is caused by inflammation around the joints, and many people find it very painful. Bursitis is another type of joint pain, which is caused by fluid buildup around the joint in the bursa. Joint pain can also occur sporadically after a workout or time spent in a cramped position.
Healing joint pain
Ice can help with joint pain by reducing the size of the capillaries that cause inflammation. Keeping cold packs in the freezer is useful for quickly soothing joint pain as it arises. Many people find that massage is helpful, along with elevating the affected area. There are also a variety of medications that may help, including Tylenol, ibuprofen and prescription drugs. Exercising often, especially through swimming, can help ease joint pain and keep them working properly. Drinking lots of water helps keeps joints lubricated, which also prevents pain.
Joint pain does not have to change a person's life. It is easily managed through a variety of treatments, including ice packs and massage. Medications are also available when other treatments are no longer working.
