Exercise and Joint Pain

Believe it or not, moderate and appropriate exercise can reduce your joint pain. By strengthening the muscles around the joints, exercise helps eliminate stress on your joints, thus alleviating aches and pains. Not only does exercise strengthen your muscles, it also increases your flexibility and endurance. As an additional benefit, you may lose weight, further lessening the strain on your joints.
Developing an exercise regimen
Talk with your doctor before beginning an exercise routine if you experience chronic joint pain. Your doctor may suggest specific exercises to perform or even to avoid, helping you in your quest to improve joint health. Working with a personal trainer for at least a few sessions may also help you develop an appropriate routine. Trainers often know the best exercises to strengthen specific muscle groups while reducing strains or aches.
Before exercising
Before you begin your exercise routine, make sure you adequately warm up your muscles. Taking the time to stretch and loosen your muscles prevents some avoidable injuries and makes additional pain or discomfort less likely.
Exercising with joint pain
Numerous exercises exist for strengthening the muscles around the joints. Find the appropriate regimen for the joints causing you pain and complete the exercises regularly for maximum benefit. In most cases, strengthening exercises require the use of a comfortable amount of weight, either through using free weights or resistance bands. At the same time, remember the benefits of aerobic exercise. While strength training focuses on specific muscle groups, aerobic exercise improves overall health and endurance. Combining both strength and aerobic activity provides the best overall workout for health and pain reduction.
If you currently experience chronic or irregular but frequent joint pain, consider incorporating appropriate exercise into your daily routine to help alleviate the pain. Appropriate exercises improve your health and energy while positively impacting your flexibility and joint strength.
